Hello Beautiful People!

My name is Sarah Blackmon and I have to lovely opportunity to connect with you all throughout the course of this fall semester! Here's a bit about me: I'm 22 years old and from the lovely city of Miami, Florida #305. I spend way too much time reading books and I also love scrolling through various social media platforms for hours on end. I’m also currently a senior at Florida State University majoring in Political Science, with minors in English and Social Entrepreneurship. Social Entrepreneurship is actually what brought me to you all! You see, through the Social Innovation & Entrepreneurship Internship program, I’ve been given the AWESOME chance to intern at The Sharing Tree this semester!

Now for those of you don’t know, The Sharing Tree is a local nonprofit that focuses on proving educational opportunities for children & adults through the use of sustainable and environmentally creative art outlets. The mission of Sharing Tree is rooted within idea of creative confidence; they seek to empower children to take creative risks by way of educational activities, programs, and opportunities. But one of the things that makes the Sharing Tree so SPECIAL is its incredible founder: Carly Sinnadurai!

In the two weeks that I've known her, it's become apparent that Carly is an absolute rockstar. Established in 2009, Carly has managed to maintain the essence of the Sharing Tree in how it's a haven for children and adults to explore their creative sides. Not only has Carly established an organization that's FUN, it also addresses key issues that plague our society both socially and environmentally. At its core, the Sharing Tree seeks to find ways to reuse discarded materials for creative purposes. Check out a cool project from this week:

Bricks 4 Kidz was an absolute hoot! They're every Thursday from 4 to 5:15pm

Throughout the course of this semester, I'll be flexing my social entrepreneurial muscle by helping Carly update the calendar sites for events and through grant research. I'm look forward to everything this experience brings!
